1 Corinthians 16:13 - Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
The apostle Paul was writing to the Corinthian Church, and in this scripture we read an admonition to the men. There are three parts to this text.
1) Watch ye.
Paul instructed the Corinthians to watch. Watch for what? It was as though Paul was instructing them to be aware of what is happening around them. As Men of God, we need to be aware of what is going on in our world. As men, we are leaders of our families and it is our responsibility to watch out for our families and for ourselves and for the church body. What’s going on in the news, in our local communities and our governments? Being informed and being aware helps us as men prepare for the road ahead as we lead.
2) Stand Fast in the Faith
Paul follows his first statement with Stand Fast in the Faith. He encourages us to not give up on our Faith. In the world that we live in, there is a pull at our Faith every day. The devil is our adversary and his goal is to kill our faith! If he can kill our faith, he can get us to stop living for God. That is why Paul admonishes us to Stand Fast in the Faith. We must keep the faith! Faith is the shield that blocks the enemy of the church and the enemy of our souls. Stand fast in the Faith.
3) Quit ye like men, and Be Strong.
The final part of this scripture is that we are to quit ye like men, and Be Strong. It is hard to have faith and to be a Christian and especially a Christian man. But it is time in a world that blurs Gender lines For Real men to be Men! To be Christian Men. Men that are robust and have courage and are strong for their families, and for their church, and for themselves. Quit ye like Men!
