John 8:31-32 KJV - 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
On April 19, 1775, a shot was fired that was heard around the world. It was the start of the American Revolutionary War. America was in it's infancy and was still under the Crown or Great Britain’s rule. The problem for the Americans was they were being taxed without representation. They called it tyranny.
Not believing the truth is self-inflicted tyranny. The Word of God is true and it is a Living Word. God’s Word has the authority and the power to make men, women, boy or girl free! It gives us freedom from sin.
Having faith and believing in the Word of God is essential to the Christian walk. If we do not believe, we shall not receive the Word of God, aka the TRUTH.
It wasn't until a year later that the American’s declared the Declaration of Independence on July 2, 1776. American leaders had decided to formally declare their independence and be free from Great Britain. But Great Britain did not accept their document, nor did Great Britain recognize officially that the war was anything more than an uprising in their colonies that needed to be quieted until the war was over.
We as Christian must declare to ourselves and to the enemy that we are free from the tyranny of sin. When we have repented of our sins, we are saying we no longer want to be a part of a sinful lifestyle and are willing to walk a different path, God’s path. The enemy may not recognize that we have started on God’s path, but we like the American Colonist of the Revolutionary War must continue on because the truth has made us free!
